So, instead of relegating y’all to the streets of Dallas, Texas, I invited y’all in to the not-so-fancy but always interesting innards of a fictional dive bar in deep East Dallas called Red’s Bar.
What is the deal with Red’s Bar?
Red’s Bar is a pivotal setting in my novel The Angel Project: Emergence. Red’s is where our hero, Zarachiel, or Zara for short, shoots pool not just to make money (she actually has a lot of money, though it’s not technically hers) and have a bit of a nightlife. Red’s is where her drink gets spiked and minions sent by the bad guy, Maximillian del Lucero, Max for short, attempt to abduct her.
And Red’s is where Zara’s sidekick, Carson, confronts her with snapshots of her changing into a giant monster-dragon-like creature in the alley when those two guys threw a tarp over her and tried to force her into their van.
Next door to Red’s is where she wakes up naked and alone and gets arrested for indecent exposure. Zara ends up in jail.
Red’s is also where Zara meets her “wiseman,” Wheelman, a disabled vet who “knows tings” are going on and tells her to be careful. He tells her she is special. But, of course, she doesn’t know what he’s talking about. And then, when Zara looks for him later, he’s disappeared.
There’s more to Red’s Bar than just a bar. It’s part of the beating heart of the setting. I don’t want to give it all away. I hope you’ll pre-order the book and become part of our Street Team to read it before anyone else and offer reviews once it’s out!
