Banned by Facebook

So, if you’re looking for me at Facebook or Facebook Messenger, it’s a no go cause I’m now banned. I’m not even sure what I did. I think I typed in some word that is on their algorithm radar which is totally my fault in that way because I was just typing what I was thinking, however, I was typing about WRITING.

Facebook only looks at the words, not the context. I mean, we wouldn’t even be able to talk about Chekov’s gun theory (writing about a gun/weapon on the wall means you have to USE that weapon/gun in your story, ie. must have meaning and move the story in some way.)

But no. Facebook is all-AI and all-ignorant of anything that MEANS anything to people in any other way than what might be considered a bad thing, IF taken out of context, which they do. Always.

Well, I just wanted to let you know that like my original @Alleypat account (a nickname I’ve used for seveal decades and you can still find me as @Alleypat on X), I am no longer @PattyPulsar on Facebook. I’m still @PattyPulsar elsewhere like I think Threads and Blsky. I MAY still be on Instagram, and I think I am, but I’m just waiting for the minute they realize it’s the same person on the account and dump that too.

My @Alleypat account on Facebook got hacked by bots from Vietnam (it said so in the bot email it used like 20 times before it got in somehow and disabled my account) through my Instagram account to Facebook. That’s what I get for linking them, I guess.

My advice to all of you? Do NOT link your Facebook and Instagram accounts. That way, if you lose one, you just might not lose the other.

Now, none of this would be a problem, me not on Facebook, except …

  1. I LOVE the messenger app. I used it to communicate with my friends from all over the world. Sigh. FB Messenger was the best thing about Facebook.
  2. I’ll miss the 20Booksto50K group on Facebook. They had wonderfully experienced people there who shared their knowledge and journey as (most of them were) self-pubbed authors.
  3. The advertising potential to other Facebook users for my books.

So, not having a Facebook account will, eventually (kinda soon actually) cost me $$. I will be creating a new account with a new name (if I can) on Facebook and I’ll let y’all know when I do.

What a hassle, right? Sigh. The foibles of social media in the 21st century. And honestly, if it wasn’t for me needing to advertise my books on Facebook, I wouldn’t bother getting a new account.

I wonder, would I do OK without Facebook? Have any of you considered dumping Facebook or maybe never got on Facebook (like my husband, he uses X only and rarely, but he’s not a writer)?

Pain the the ***. However, I’ll still be around! If you wanna talk about this issue, gimme a shout on some OTHER social media LOL or just write me at alleypat@gmail.com (my non-professional email account).

Happy New Year y’all! Hope you are prolific and profitable and most of all, healthy and happy!

Pat

She’s running from the darkness. But what lurks inside her is darker.

The debut novel from award-winning author Pat Hauldren explores questions of who we think we are vs the truth of who we are, and the price we pay no matter the path taken.

Life is not simple for Zarachiel, freshly escaped from her drug-dealing foster parents in deep South Texas. In Dallas, she stays off the grid. She finds a new family in Gracie, from whom she leases an extra bedroom, and Katie, Gracie’s four-year-old daughter.

The cartel attacks just as Zarachiel makes contact with her biological father. They want what she stole from them.

Amid chaos and survival for both her and her new family, Zarachiel discovers her true nonhuman self as she fights for her freedom and the freedom of humanity.
