Genres are special in storytelling. Each genre has it’s own shorthand–tropes or elements–that make a genre that specific genre. Bestselling genre-writing authors use those tropes to feed their readers’s needs. Romance readers crave romantic elements. Fantasy readers desire unreal elements. Regardless of the genre you are writing, weaving in those genre tropes is one of the best methods for feeding your reader’s genre addictions. To generate gorgeous genre stories, we must learn the elements/tropes and use them to best effect. In this class, we’ll analyze others’ work and enhance our own first three pages. Your readers are addicted to those tropes, so let’s feed them!
About the Instructor:
Pat Hauldren is a science fiction & fantasy author who teaches writing workshops online and live around the world. She has presented classes with online writers’ groups as well as community colleges and in Europe. Pat’s writing classes are a dynamic working writing experience for the student. The student gets extensive one-on-one time for rigorous personal attention and feedback as well as active class participation.
